Growling Black Dragon by AsheSkyler Growling Black Dragon by AsheSkyler
Another request from my husband.

Tried timing this one. It took about 19 hours. 5 hours of that were spent on scale detail, nearly as long as the pencil counterpart took.

Tools:
Photoshop 7.0
Wacom Intuos2 Tablet

Black Dragon Wizards of the Coast

Nice work, I like the ammount of detail on the black dragon and the colors look very natural to me. The transparant wings are also a nice touch. :)
Drawing all those scales must have taken a lot of work, but that's not really needed, it's not natural either. Take a look at this:[link] it helped me a lot.

If it's not natural, then why don't scaled animals like lizards and snakes also have an optical illusion effect applied to their bodies?

It disregards the rule of depth and edges, you don't see each and every individual scale on an animal.

Each scale is still there and I enjoy drawing them.

Amazing detail work! I can imagine it took quite a lot of patience to do that.
